The Financial Coach is a grant funded full-time, exempt position and will serve as a team member for this collaborative project. The Financial Coach will be the champion for the participants involved in this program and will help assess participants' situations, capabilities,and obstacles to determine what services are required to meet their holistic needs and then serve as their advocate as they navigate the complex service systems to work toward their economic goals.


Agency Duties and Responsibilities

  1.  Supports the mission, vision and philosophy of Neighborhood House as evidenced by compliance with all agency policies and procedures.
  2. Provide leadership and positive interaction with others as evidenced by professional maturity, respect for others, a team-centered approach, maintenance of confidential information, and an appreciation of a multicultural workplace.
  3. Exhibits effective communication skills internally and externally including the proper use of agency communication systems.
  4. Exhibits sound stewardship by effectively managing financial resources, information resources, and physical resources to achieve the objectives of Neighborhood House.
  5. Performs job duties (serves) in a way that supports Neighborhood House values Respect, Integrity, Service, and Education (R.I.S.E).

 Essential Functions

  1. Conducts assessments with participants when they become involved with the program to determine needs and capabilities
  2. Works with participants to determine their financial goals and jointly creates action plans to achieve their goals
  3. Monitors progress of participants and their action plans
  4. Maintains statistical information as required for documentation by the operations agency, prepares reports and correspondence, as needed.
  5. Explores and provides information for participants on available community services/resources
  6. Serves as an advocate on behalf of participants with other agencies to obtain services to meet their goals
  7. Escorts and/or transports family leader and/or child to needed services, as appropriate
  8. Assists with locating and supporting primary needs such as housing, food, utility or other services
  9. Creates, organizes and maintains case files
  10. Works with participants to help them meet their responsibility to the project
  11. Plan and conduct monthly peer learning and support groups that teach financial management basics and other factors related to asset security and financial empowerment
  12. Attends and actively participates in training, meetings and agency events and activities as assigned


  • Bachelors Degree in Social Work or related field - an equivalent combination of training and/or life experience may be substituted
  • Experience in navigating the social service system, personally or as a professional
  • Willingness to meet challenges with determination, perseverance, and grace
  • Demonstrated ability to overcome life challenges and obstacles
  • Passion for financial stability work
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks successfully
  • Ability to work with diverse populations in an inclusive environment

  • Must have valid drivers' license and insurance and have the ability to provide own transportation.  A considerable amount of driving may be required.
